Pelvic Floor Treatment

EMsella Powerform Pelvic floor exercises

Powerform V-Plus Pelvic Floor Treatment at Cheshire Lasers

Cheshire Lasers provides Powerform V-Plus chair treatments for strengthening and tightening the pelvic floor muscles. Treating the pelvic floor can help a variety of problems, the most common being stress incontinence.

The Benefits of Treatment:

high intensity focused electro-magnetic

What is Powerform V-Plus?

Powerform V-Plus is a powerful, revolutionary pelvic floor and core muscle toning treatment. It uses High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic technology, which creates the equivalent of 20,000 muscle contractions in a  30-minute treatment.

Powerform V  induces deep pelvic floor muscle contractions equivalent to 15,000 Kegel exercises in just 30 minutes.

The treatment targets the pelvic floor muscle directly and doesn’t require neuromuscular control; the muscle can contract far more than it would consciously, creating highly effective results that could not be achieved using manual Kegel exercise alone.

How does Powerform V-Plus Work?

The Powerform V-Plus creates electromagnetic energy fields which trigger the biological effect of exercise in a non-invasive, painless manner. The energy stimulates motor neurone pulses in 100% of the muscle fibre, significantly more than what would be possible in conventional pelvic floor and core muscle exercises.

The treatment engages the Mitochondria which burn off energy, which encourage the muscle to adapt to this increase in energy. The intense muscle contractions stimulate the muscles to create new protein strands and muscle fibres, resulting in increased muscle tone, strength, density and volume.

The treatment not only helps increase fat and calorie burning in the area treated, but it also improves the body’s metabolic rate. Another benefit to the treatment is a reduction in the amount of inflammation in that area of the body.

The overall result increase in:

  • muscle tone
  • strength
  • volume
  • density

Contra-indications:

At Cheshire Lasers we do not recommend a Powerform V-Plus treatment if you have the following:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Copper coil ( IUD)
  • Pacemaker
  • Implanted Defibrillator
  • Reveal Device
  • Active Cancer or undergoing Cancer treatment
  • Large Metal Prosthetics near the treatment area
  • Infection near the treatment area

You will need a medical assessment from our clinic doctor if you have the following conditions:

  • Selected Cardiac or Vascular Diseases
  • Thrombosis or Thrombophlebitis
  • Prescribed Anti-coagulant medications
  • Steroid medication
  • Uncontrolled Blood Pressure
  • Transplant patients
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Auto-immune Conditions / Immunosuppression
  • Fragile Skin
  • Skin Thinning medication

How many treatments will I need?

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend a course of around eight Powerform V-Plus treatments to achieve results.

We recommend a treatment twice a week. It can be three times a week if you prefer, however, you must leave 48 hours between each treatment to allow the muscle to recover.

Would a course of Powerform V-Plus treatments suit me?

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend Powerform V-Plus to strengthen and tighten the pelvic floor muscles.

The treatment can benefit a range of people and problems:

  • Post-pregnancy to improve weakness in the pelvic floor and or abdominal wall muscles
  • Weakness due to ageing – to help prolapse symptoms and or stress incontinence.
  • Muscle weakness due to medical conditions where exercise is not possible.
  • To help pelvic floor weakness problems when  pelvic floor physiotherapy and exercises have failed to help the problem

Is the treatment safe?

Yes! The Powerform treatment transmits consistent electromagnetic fields to the pelvic floor, triggering the biological effect of Kegel exercises in a non-invasive, painless manner.

How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment lasts 30 minutes, making sessions suitable for even the busiest of lifestyles!

What will I feel during the treatment?

The treatment is completely pain-free but can sometimes feel a little uncomfortable. Simply sit on the 3D Powerform V chair fully clothed. The treatment will stimulate thousands of muscle contractions.

Why consider a Powerform V-Plus Pelvic Floor Treatment?

The current guidelines recommend pelvic floor muscle training as the first-line conservative treatment for stress incontinence and mild prolapses. Exercises need to be performed regularly every day and continued long-term to make a difference. Some people struggle to do the exercises due to a lack of time/commitment, whereas others have a poor, ineffective technique, so the exercises do not improve the problem.

To help with pelvic floor exercises, your GP can refer you to a physiotherapist who specialises in pelvic floor problems. They can advise you about technique and help you improve the efficiency of the exercises so they actually cause changes and improvement. Physiotherapists can also help you by using a biofeedback device to measure the strength of the pelvic floor muscle to help educate you when you are making strong contractions and also advise if the exercises are making a difference. They can also advise about vaginal cones. Some physiotherapists also use electrical stimulation to help the muscle contract and increase muscle tone.  Despite these interventions, some people still struggle to improve their pelvic floor strength and tone.

Powerform V-Plus targets the entire pelvic floor, unlike the electrical stimulation devices and unlike conscious pelvic floor exercises, which only target a small area of the pelvic floor.  A treatment session of 30 minutes is equivalent to 20,000 contractions, so each treatment leads to quicker and more dramatic muscle changes compared to any other treatment.

Does the treatment replace Kegel exercises?

Powerform treatment is considered more effective, as Kegel exercises cannot achieve the intensity or number of muscle contractions that the treatment achieves in a 30-minute session.

It is still recommended that you perform some exercises, especially after your course of treatment, so you can continue to maintain the strength and function of your pelvic floor. You can, however, book maintenance treatments if you prefer as an alternative.

What types of incontinence improve with Pelvic Floor Treatment?

Stress incontinence is the most likely to respond to pelvic floor treatment. Mixed incontinence can also improve to some extent.

What is stress incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a condition in which there is an involuntary loss of urine on effort, physical exertion, sneezing or coughing. A weak pelvic floor most commonly causes this, hence why pelvic floor exercises are recommended.

Powerform Pelvic Floor Treatment Reviews

Feedback Received 1 week after 8th Treatment:

I have had a week pelvic floor and mild stress incontinence for years and this has got worse over time. I struggle to feel my pelvic floor and therefore find pelvic floor exercises impossible.  So I thought I would give the Powerform a try.
At first, I felt very little during the treatment and was concerned my muscles were past improvement. After a few treatments, I was more aware of my pelvic floor muscles and felt I could contract them slightly better than I could before. On my 6th and 7th treatments the muscle contractions felt more intense and I became more aware of my own pelvic floor contractions in between treatments.

A week after my 8th treatment on the powerform chair I am so much happier with my pelvic floor function. I can feel a significant improvement in the strength of my muscles and the stress incontinence has improved a lot.  I plan to have another couple of treatments over the next month and will definitely continue with the recommended 6-week maintenance

Feedback received on the day of 8th treatment:

Pleased with the results of the powerform pelvic floor treatment. Just had my 8th treatment, my pelvic floor feels tighter and I can feel and use the muscles in this area much more. I have improved control passing urine and it has reduced my stress incontinence. Thank you, TS.

Feedback received on the day of 8th treatment:

I was having several leaks a day whilst coughing, sneezing, lifting, physical exercise and certainly if I didn’t make it to the toilet on time.  Now I think its mostly reduced to just physical exercise as I feel more in control at other times.
I would definitely recommend the treatment as I do feel more confident. I am determined to carry on with pelvic floor exercises and follow up with occasional Power Chair treatments.

Reiki

Reiki Middlewich Treatment Cheshire

At Cheshire Lasers, Reiki Treatments are provided by:  Sharron Roughton and Tara Shotton

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that originated in the early 20th century. It aims to promote healing by channelling energy through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient, either through light touch or by placing the hands just above the body.

Reiki, pronounced ray-key, means ‘universal life force’ and refers to the energy field surrounding everything in our universe. Energy flows through channels in our bodies and if one’s channels become blocked or our energy is low, then we are more likely to feel the effects of stress.

Reiki can help improve any illness or condition and is particularly useful in relieving stress, depression, anxiety and pain. It is also an effective method of inducing deep relaxation and maintaining a balanced state of well-being. A Buddhist monk from southern Japan started to use Reiki in the 1920s as a spiritual healing technique. We all have a personal energy field made up of a system of connected ‘chakras’ around our bodies, and when they’re balanced, we’re physically and emotionally healthy. If they become blocked or unbalanced, it impacts our well-being. Reiki practitioners, or masters, can summon and direct good energy (happiness and calm) to replace ‘bad’ (anger, stress, and frustration), in turn restoring health and wellbeing.

Find out more about Reiki here.

What happens during a Reiki Treatment?

You lie down, fully dressed, and a reiki master places their hands very lightly on or just above to guide positive energy into your body. They don’t diagnose or offer cures but channel positive energy to improve physical and emotional issues. Some people experience a tingling sensation; others feel warmth or a cooling effect. In the main, it’s a relaxing experience.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It can be useful in helping virtually any illness and always creates a beneficial effect. Reiki also works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. It is a spiritual healing treatment aimed at bringing about gentle balance and wellbeing.

Reiki may be beneficial for the following:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Emotional balancing, self-esteem
  • Sleeping problems
  • Relationship problems
  • Coping with changes in life
  • Pre and post-surgery
  • Trauma, grief
  • Pain
  • Mental, emotional, physical and spiritual healing
  • Side effects of medications and treatments

Reiki is very relaxing. During treatment, the practitioner will place their hands either on or off the body at specific treatment points.

A Reiki treatment lasts for approximately 60 minutes.

Reiki can be adapted to help most medical conditions. It is used safely to help people of all ages, including pregnant mothers, newborns, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, in any situation.

ReikiFlex

Reikiflex is a relatively new combined treatment of Reflexology and Reiki. It offers a deeply relaxing complementary therapy to balance mind and body physically and spiritually.

This safe and unique treatment is aimed at those wishing to experience calming and spiritual therapy.

Being complementary, Reiki & Reikiflex work effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies, expanding treatment options.

Reflexology

Reflexology treatments Middlewich Cheshire

Reflexology is based upon the principle that there are energy zones that run throughout the body and there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all the major parts of the body. It is a complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands, which correspond to different organs and systems in the body.

This practice aims to promote health and well-being by stimulating these reflex points.

Benefits of Reflexology:

  • Increased circulation: by stimulating blood flow, reflexology may enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, potentially improving overall health.
  • Improved relaxation:  may help alleviate stress and induce deep relaxation, contributing to overall well-being.
  • Sense of well-being
  • Supports the immune system
  • Elimination of toxins from the body
  • Lowers Blood Pressure.
  • Cancer Relief.
  • Detoxification.
  • Improve tension, stress and circulation associated with enhancing your own fertility.
  • Beneficial in supporting the symptoms in Pregnancy.
  • Enhanced Sleep Quality: The relaxation effects of reflexology might contribute to better sleep patterns, aiding those experiencing insomnia or disrupted sleep.
  • Digestive Support: Some individuals report relief from digestive issues, such as constipation, through reflexology sessions.
  • Hormonal Balance: Reflexology might aid in balancing hormones, which can be beneficial for individuals experiencing issues related to hormonal imbalances.
  • Immune System Boost: By promoting overall relaxation and balance, reflexology may support the immune system’s function, potentially reducing the frequency of illnesses.
  • Anxiety and Depression Alleviation: Reflexology may help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, promoting emotional balance and mental health.

Reflexology can help alleviate many problems, such as colds, sinusitis, migraines, asthma, sciatica and insomnia. It relaxes, reduces stress and detoxifies the body and can be used effectively as a preventative form of health care. It can bring a balance to conditions such as hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, back pain and headaches.

Problems Reflexology can help with:

  • Migraine
  • Stress, anxiety, depression
  • Back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Hormonal imbalances/PMS
  • Menopause Symptoms
  • IBS/digestive disorders
  • Stress-related conditions
  • Sleep problems
  • Fertility

Who Provides Reflexology at Cheshire Lasers?

At Cheshire Lasers Clinic, we have two highly experienced Reflexologists:

Tara Shotton who performs Reflexology at Cheshire Lasers on Thursdays. Find out more about her experience, treatments and prices here.

Sharron Roughton provides Reflexology at Cheshire Lasers on Fridays and Saturdays. Find out more about her prices, treatments and experience here.

What does Reflexology involve?

A Reflexology treatment (with or without specially selected aromatherapy oils) lasts for approximately 60 minutes. The first treatment, however, can take up to 90 minutes as a full client consultation occurs before the treatment can commence.

During a typical reflexology session, the reflexologist will take a detailed medical history. Sessions are usually performed in a comfortable chair or couch. The client will be asked to remove footwear and socks. The practitioner will make a visual and tactile examination of the area to be worked on before beginning the precise reflexology movements. The particular types of movements involved require the application of appropriate pressure using the thumb and fingers.

Why may I benefit from Reflexology?

Reflexology may be beneficial in restoring balance and harmony in the body and releasing tension. Practitioners believe that it helps facilitate a deep state of relaxation, calm emotions, and produce a serene mind. Research studies support many of these benefits.

Many people describe a profound sense of relaxation and increased energy following their session. In addition, specific studies indicate that reflexology may reduce pain and anxiety.

Reflexology is growing increasingly popular across Europe and Asia as both a complement to other treatments and as a preventive measure. One example is Denmark, where various municipalities and companies have employed reflexologists since the early ’90s.
According to several studies, this practice in Denmark has resulted in reduced sick leave and absenteeism (and significant economic savings for the employers). Employees have consistently reported a complete or partial improvement in conditions where they sought reflexologists’ help and even relief for additional problems related to stress. In one municipal district, almost one-third of the employees reported greater satisfaction with their jobs after completing six sessions with a reflexologist.

Help with Fertility at Cheshire Lasers

help with fertility middlewich

Cheshire Lasers can help with your fertility journey.

Mark Guggiari specialises in Acupuncture to help fertility and pre-conception care here at Cheshire Lasers.

Sharron Roughton specialises in Reflexology and has training and experience treating couples for fertility and women throughout their pregnancy.

It is estimated that 1 in 7 couples in the UK will experience fertility issues every year, this is approximately 3.5 million people (NHS, 2017). The psychological effects of being unable to get or stay pregnant can be absolutely devastating. Some people get caught in a cycle of expectation and disappointment every month, which can add considerably to the stress they are already experiencing. For some this can lead to anxiety and low mood. Some people also find it difficult to talk to family and friends and can often feel isolated.

How can Acupuncture help with Fertility?

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine help prepare your body for conception, be it assisted conception or natural conception.
Many people choose acupuncture because they would like to avoid assisted conception. Some have chosen it because they have heard it is a beneficial support during assisted conception. Others turn to acupuncture because they have tried everything else and want to explore other options to help them conceive.

Wherever you may be in your fertility journey, acupuncture support may be an excellent way to help bring you into better balance.

Whatever the reason:

  • Just at the outset of trying to conceive
  • You have been trying for some time
  • Just embarking down the assisted pathway
  • You may have had multiple assisted experiences

Mark Guggiari MBAcC, PgDip(Acu), Dip(Tui Na) is a member of the Acupuncture Fertility Network. Since 2015, he has provided acupuncture services for the Hewitt Fertility Centre in Knutsford, which is part of Liverpool Women’s Hospital. He has completed post-graduate training to ensure that he has a fully versed understanding of Western protocols and procedures.

Mark’s patients benefit from his rare experience of working within a major IVF clinic within the NHS. He provides packages of acupuncture treatment to support patients during their treatment cycle, as well as immediately pre and post embryo transfer at the clinic.

How can Reflexology help with Fertility?

Busy lives can impact your natural fertility and conception. Balance in a woman’s or man’s emotional and physical well-being is extremely important in the attempt to conceive. Reflexology has been used for fertility, pregnancy, and childbirth throughout history. Reflexology assists in re-balancing the mind and body, bringing about body balance.

Whilst fertility reflexology can never claim to cure any particular condition, it works by balancing all the of body systems particularly the endocrine system, enhancing your own natural fertility.

Encouraging the body to work in a more harmonious way can create a healthier environment for pregnancy to occur. Fertility Reflexology promotes your body’s balance and encourages the body to function efficiently.

Using Reflexology, Sharron can help you through your fertility journey, be it pre-conceptual care, infertility or pregnancy. Sharron has undertaken specialist training in Reflexology for infertility and pregnancy care.  She is happy to treat couples at any stage in their fertility planning. If they are enhancing their general health before trying for a baby, experiencing problems with conception or need support and guidance during IVF or pregnancy.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

EMDR therapy Cheshire

What is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)?

EMDR is a treatment for distressing memories; those memories may be related to trauma such as sexual abuse, childhood neglect, road traffic accidents or violence. It can also, be helpful for phobias, traumatic grief, pain and performance anxiety. Traumatic memories can become blocked in the brain which then causes symptoms of anxiety and intrusive images.

You may have tried to avoid the thoughts and certain places related to the trauma because of this. The brain stem is triggering the fight/flight response. The Amygdala in the brain becomes overcharged by the blocked memory as it remains unprocessed and undigested. It then affects the thinking process.

EMDR treatment uses bilateral stimulation activating the left and right brain hemispheres. It activates the memory networks allowing the memory to be processed and digested. The bilateral stimulation can be auditory, tactile, sensory and also visual stimulus. It may trigger off other memories that you may not have been aware of.

Please consult the following web address for further information on EMDR;

EMDR treatments are carried out by Noah at Cheshire Lasers.
